Question things...

how does the media portray stereotypes and what effect does it have in society?
which stereotype is effected the most?
which is the best type of media in terms of the least stereotyping
what to you think will happen...
should the media be held responsible for stereotyping and it's effect
why does the media stereotype?
what is the best was to identify/address the stereotypes in media
---------------------------------------------------------------------
im not 100% content with these questions, and im missing one
so, i may change some of them, or a lot of them

yesterday::

i did not post because i did not have my laptop
so i had to use a spare
but i did not get anywork done
at all

because i had no idea what to do for a good portion
then i got the dot jot note thing
and i do not like dot jot notes
AT ALL!!!!!!!

and then ringold saw my alien on my hand and asked about it
so i told him i was reading a book about Kurt Cobain
and ringold called him an idiot
so we got into a argument about how he died
and ringold took my computer
and looked it up
then he was trying to convince me that i thought the Holacust wasnt real
and then we started talking about Columbine
then we had to leave
so, that's why i didn'r do anything yesterday

-identified 1 or 2 potential sources
-identified a topic – stereotypes and the media
-started to consider essential questions
GOALS
-locating 8-9 more web sources
-develop some potential essential question
-read 2 sources
-outline each sources as you read it

today! the 15th of September

i looked for websites
but, noting really useful was found

i also thought of how i could combine my idead since i am still not settled on anything

we are supposed to be doing research

but i'm not really interested in my topic so i find it rather complicated to do research on it.
and to stay on task and focused
x_x

so i guess we'll see what progress [if any] i made at the end of class

going through old notebooks and folders

and it's making me realize how much i am not content with my topic
=\

if only you could understand how much i admire Dave Cullen

i felt bad because i didnt post a blog yesterday

what i did on September 8, 2009

well, first
i did nothing
then i talked to a teacher about my ideas
note, ideas, not idea
so many ideas

and that did about the complete opposite of help
which in case your not in the mood tho think, that means that it made it a bout a bajillion million more times confusing

and at this point
i could care less what i picked
because in 5 months in going to want to change it anyways
so whats the point of doing all of this, soon to be, pointless work i ask you?
because in the end, you and i both know, i am going to fail

and i don't know about you, my friend, but i have known ever since i was a wee little kid, that i wouldn't graduate in 2011
and is a fact, to me at least
and i am willing to accept it

so basically, im finding a more complicated way, as always, to say
if i don't pick my topic, and a good one at that, by the end of the week
I WILL FAIL!

and that will be no fun for any of us
'
but today i also read some old blog posts
to see if it would help
but i guess the fact is, today is a day that i am unable to think about my own 'problems'
soooo, good day to you my friend, and a lovely good night!

once again, a new idea relating to nothing anything did before

how the media has an effect on stereotypes?

i decided i would like to do something on stereotypes and how they are portrayed. so basically the propaganda behind stereotypes.

the reason i think that this would be a good idea is because this effects everyone weather they know it or not. and it is something we are taught every since we are little. the reason i say that is because we would categorize things such like toys, and they would go in the toy box, and are supplies would go together. and even thought those small things don't seem big they are.

and because the negative/positive would be to large of a topic, i narrored it down to the media. when i say this i mean how t.v shows would use stereotyping to be more popular by ridiculing one specific stereotype. for example, the Simpson, Apu works at the Kwik-E-Mart, which it like a convenient store like co-gos. Also, his ascent can be considered comical and one, not knowing better, could go up to someone that looks Indian and imitate that accent which could offend them.

this was just another random-ish idea i had that i thought would be interesting, but unless i have a mind blowing idea or an action plan for something im not going to blog about, at leas ill try not to.

my brain hurts

from trying to read things from wikipedia about music psychology and Musicology
and the only thing i learned so far is that i need a dictionary and that you can add "ology" to the end of any word and make it more complicated and confusing

but back to the actually point of this project [it seems more like projectology]
im thinking that i shouldn't do something on music and/or murders because after to talking to some people about my career choices and telling them some things, they were like "go with roller coaster engineer" and now that i think of it that seems so much more worthwhile and profitable. The reason i say this is because knowing me i'll get too stressed out being a criminologist, and then i'll be like "forget this" and end up back where i am now. and if i were to own my own record label, with my luck i'll only sign people that would become one hit wonders, or that just plain out suck, and then ill lose a lot of money there. not to mention the fact of all the different majors i should get:: music history [and going through a music industry program], digital music, business, advertising, marketing, accounting, and im sure having more experience in web design would help. it is also very risky and competitive and a lot of people fail, so if i don't have another career i'll be, once again, in trouble. and my theory behind being roller coaster engineer is that people want to try something new, and i have 3 ideas for new roller coasters, and they are new concepts, or at least not very common ones. so if i can create them and make a lot of money from people coming into the park, and then selling the actual coaster, or re-designing it for other parks. because people like new things. And i know i would also need things like marketing and accounting, but in my opinion i have less of a chance of failing at this.
so since i have now decided to base my project on what i want my career to be, i'm back at square one, well, i never actually left it.

5th post in 2 days. (need some help)

wow, i guess i can't help it, im like a compulsive blogger, but it will probably all stop once i figure out my topic.

if any one has any ideas for things that would follow along the careers of criminology, roller coaster engineer, or record producer can you help me out.
or if you have any ideas for the action plans for my ideas

it would help me out loads!
thanks!

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW MANY LICKS IT REALLY TAKES TO GET TO THE CENTER OF A TOOTSIE POP!

well now you will know thanks to holli's brilliant idea for a graduation project!
it just hit me like a trucks!
BAM!!
and now i will attempt to execute this
even thought i doubt i'll be allowed to

so i guess im getting closer...?

‘psyche’
or something
i'm really not sure
but hey, if i can just get this choosing a topic with over with ill be content
and i really don't even care what i do for it now, mainly because no matter what i choose someone always finds something wrong.
so i guess i'm doing ‘psyche'
at least it seems remotely entertaining

i'm still trying to grasp the concept... [updated: 9/5/09]

that there is a difference be an 'essay' and 'report' because I always assumed that they were inter changeable.
so once i understand that maybe I can actually find a topic that can be 'approved by someone a teacher.
this is the point that i just want to to something majorly easy instead of something i believe in, because that's not really working out for me.
so bye bye fun, hello actually stressful work.

Some more random ideas, tell me if you like any of them, and why if there's more than a "its interesting" answer. thanks =]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic: Roller coasters.
Question:who created the firs roller coaster?
Action plan:

this just kind of goes along with one of the careers i would like to pursue in: Roller coaster engineer. now that i think of it, i think that this question is just wrong, because i mean, it's so out there and its just like a one word answer.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic: Music vs Violence
Question: does listening to a cretin type of music mean that you're more likely to be violent?
Action plan: would an action plan be like a study? like, would i be able to try and test this one people and set them up in conditions and let them listen to certain songs/bands that are said to make people violent and put them through the same condition again? and by condition i mean like give them a paper with some questions and each one will be slightly different but still have the same concept and see how they would react? or would that be too much like what they do in PJAS?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic: Us and violence
Question: why is the US the most violent county? [or one of them, ill have to look that up to confirm it is or isn't the most]
Action plan: documentary? like, interview people and ask them their opinions?

personally i think that this would just be a rip off of part of the movie Bowling For Columbine. which in a way may make it easier for me because i already have a source!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic: Music and Parental Advisory
Question: Why should the government 'rate' our music?
Action Plan:

This is kind of related to the bias report, or essay, that we had to do for 10th grade careers class.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic: Gun control
Question: do guns kill people, or do people kill people?
Action Plan: talk to people about the risk of playing with guns [it sounds so cheesy]

the reason i made the question that was because i like the saying "if guns kill people, my pencil must misspell words". But i guess it could also be worded "Will controlling guns make the murder rate go down?", but that doesn't sound interesting. or "would the world be a safer place if the government rules to take away all registered hand guns?", i remember hearing that on the news and it really annoyed me because i know that the answer is no, but it would be hard to find information supporting my answer because [and i hate to bring politics into things] the resources supporting my answer would be more conservative, and the media is more leftist.

i still really like this idea, but it really doesn't apply to one of the careers i would like to peruse, and i would prefer if my graduation project did.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic: 'God-like powers' and murders
Question: Could some people be sent by god to kill?
Action plan:

This one probably makes me seem "sadistic" because im saying that God causes murders, which in my opinion, he does, because he is all powerful and if he didn't want things to happen, why would they? But another reason i would like to ask this question is because throughout my research of murders i found a lot of people that they said they had "god-like powers" and i wanted to see if it is an active imagination, or if they truly have 'un-human powers"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic: the US and its law
Question: If we are the "land of the free" why do we have laws?
Action Plan:

the way i see it, if we were truly "the land of the free" we wouldn't have rules telling us what we can and can't do. and that countries that has a 'government system' of anarchy are the true free countries because they can do what they want, when they want, how they want with not consequences

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i don't want to seem so repetitive by saying for pretty much all of these i would like to do kind of a documentary type of thing. But once one of my research teachers gave me that idea last year its still on my mind.

And i still REALLY have my heart set on doing something about Columbine, but the problem is that all the things that people blame for making them do that, i don't think it has to do with any of that. i think its is truly because they wanted to be remembered, and be 'famous'. to leave a lasting impression on the world so they wouldn't be forgotten.

"It'll be like the L.A. riots, the Oklahoma bombing, WWII, Vietnam, Duke and Doom all mixed together. I want to leave a lasting impression on the world."
~Eric Harris
(http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1211059,00.html)

that may be another reason i can't think of a good action plan, because none of the topics interest me, and i would try to answer the question so it would show that they are wrong...

any ways, i would rather do something 'im really interested in and pass with a low C than do something i fine 'stupid' or boring or uninteresting and pass with a high A. So i am going to fight till i can do Columbine, so be prepared =]

questions (9/3/09)- updated 9/4/09

1. What have you heard about the graduation project at City High? Do you know any students in 12th grade or who have already graduated that completed their projects? What were their experiences?

I’ve heard that if you don’t pass it, you don’t graduate.

Yes, one of my friends did violence and video games and the other did serial killers, and I know that someone else did something about Darfur, the drama program, child abuse, and fashion. And for my friend that did the one on serial killers made his action plan be a chart.

2. What are some interests you have that you think you might like to structure a project around?

Music, Columbine, the mind of murders.

3. What are some of the concerns that you have about the graduation project?

That I’m going to be stuck doing something that I don’t want to and be miserable about it and then procrastinate it and fail.

a briliant idea!

so i think i've thought of something to do my graduation project on!
yay!
its the effect music has on killers
